While you're there

Nice, the capital of the French Riviera

Nice, capital of the French Riviera, is the place to be whether you are an art lover, a shopping addict, night clubber or just fond of the Dolce Vita lifestyle. Nice is a creative, dynamic and cosmopolitan city. The city is a symbol of Mediterranean art of living, with a perpetual invitation to travel and relaxation. Its surroundings also provide various opportunities for cultural discoveries. Nice has an exceptional microclimate, open to the sea and protected from the winds by the surrounding hills.

Dedicate two days in Nice to tour the old city which is the most picturesque area of Nice. Its exceptional baroque architecture, famous flower market, Place Rossetti, trompe-l’œil façades and numerous churches are some of the highlights not to be missed! Make a detour to the Cours Saleya and discover its local products. The French Riviera is a favourite destination for the perfume makers. Take time to visit the small perfume museum in the old town. Later, climb the steps that lead to the magnificent park of the Castle Hill with a stunning view over the old town, the Baie des Anges and the harbour.

Try local specialities like Socca (chickpea pancake) or Pissaladière (anchovy-cream-based tart with a soft layer of onions and olives). Dishes are always accompanied by the rich flavour of Cailletier, a special olive tree typical of Nice. Enjoy the sweet Mediterranean lifestyle by tasting a glass of Vin de Bellet.

Head to Place Massena for a unique shopping experience. Then move to the nearby Golden Square, which is renowned for its luxurious, elegant and refined boutiques.

Customer reviews

  • "very good"
convenience and comfort but a bit expensive
  • "more space fot luggage"
Excellent trip. I would like a little more space for handbagage above the passengers. Compare to airplanes.
  • "Paris to Nice"
    Good connectivity. Comfortable journey
  • "Quiet "
A very nice clean and comfortable train journey down to the French Riviera! It was so quiet the family and I were able to take a nice nap before our next part of our trip! Would recommend to anyone to take this high speed train!
  • "Nice to Venice"
fabulous trip! great internet connectivity and it was easy to find our way!
  • "Luggage bin too small"
It was fast but there were just too many stops on the way to Marseille. The luggage storage was too small for the number of passengers in the coach, especially with some travellers who have big suitcases.
  • "***** "
It was lifetime experience for ourselves as we are Indian never used this types of facilities can get in running train.your all staff are very very helpful and friendly. We are further planning for another trip with your railway and you please advise how we can get plans for Switzerland trip from Paris.
  • "Very comfortable travelling by"
    TGV has lived upto expectations.
  • "excelent service "
Excellent on time service and purchasing. Online was perfect and easy to use
  • "Better than Eurostar "
We loved traveling in the upper level coach and enjoy the buffet cars on these trains. Seats are comfortable with footrests.
  • "Paris to Nice...so nice!"
We loved the train ride from Paris to Nice. Very comfortable, scenic, and good food. Would have appreciate a little more presence of staff throughout 5.5 hour ride and the bathrooms were disgusting halfway through trip with urine all over the floor so some bathroom maintenance would have been good. Otherwise, we were sorry we booked a flight back to Paris after our stay in Nice as the train was so comfortable and convenient.
  • "French Riviera and Paris"
Reasonably Pleasant trip. Many helpful train staff but there are always a few black sheep
  • "Amazing experience"
This was my experience of A TGV and it was amazing. Though it was a long journey of around 5 and half hours, but the train was comfortable and we were able to relax comfortably. It started on time and reached well on time. The speeds were exemplary as it touched 300 kmph mark during the trip.
  • "Clean, comfortable, roomy"
Was comfortable seating, scenic views. Clean, comfortable ride.
  • "Clean, comfortable, SCENIC"
Very scenic, beautiful views. Comfortable ride. Would ride again
