Don’t Miss

Put your waterproofs on and get up close to the Jet d’Eau, a fountain of water pumped 140m into the air. It’s a totally different experience to see it at night.

Retail Therapy

The Quartier des Grottes features interesting Gaudi-like architecture as well as many unique shops. Swiss army knives, watches and products with the Swiss flag on are popular souvenirs. If you’re looking to pick up something a bit different, try La Rue du Marché near the train station.

Eat and Drink

The only reason Swiss wines aren’t internationally popular is because the Swiss drink it all, it’s quaffable and a good price. Around the Cornavin train station there are plenty of budget eats, and head to Plaine de Plainpalais near the University for the Best Bars.

Hidden Gem

The free botanical gardens flanking Lake Geneva not only contain plants from around the world, an aviary, a deer enclosure and tropical greenhouses but also a scent-and-touch garden especially for the blind.

Day Trip

The fantastic Swiss rail network means there are regular trains to destinations all over Switzerland. Visit Lausanne less than an hour train ride away and enjoy the lakeside promenades, beautiful port and ultra-modern Olympic Museum.
