Don’t Miss
The ruined priory, Prieure de Saint-Cosme, is still standing from the Middle Ages. Take a picnic and enjoy the meditative feel of the attractive surrounding gardens. The medieval-style houses in the old part, Le Vieux Tours are interesting, as is the Gothic St Gatien Cathedral.
Retail Therapy
You’ll find a way to spend your money on the Rue Nationale, with books, clothes and shoes galore. If not, try Rue des Halles for even more squandering opportunities.
Eat and Drink
For nightlife head to Place Plumerau, a square filled with local cafes, restaurants and themed bars – you’re sure to find somewhere to lay your beer mat. As the night progresses get to Rue Colbert in the cathedral quarter.
Hidden Gem
Not only is the Musée des Beaux-Arts a beautiful looking museum housing some great pieces – it’s also home to a picturesque garden. It’s relatively small compared to other landscaped ground in Tours but the two rectangular beds of flowers are perfectly pruned around the marble statue of a fauna and leopard.
Day Trip
Hop on a train to Blois – it’s less than an hour and you’ll get to see the great Blois Castle. The courtyard is divided into four wings, Medieval, Flamboyant Gothic, Renaissance, and Classical, and offers a great insight into the development of the area’s architecture. You’ll also see King Henry III’s bedroom – the location of the murder of the Duke de Guise.
